Preventative Screenings
Vision care is about more than just blurry vision.
Eye exams are vital to your overall health. In addition to assessing your visual acuity, your eye care provider will test for common eye diseases, assess how your eyes are functioning together, and more using the following technologies.
- Healthy Eyes-Exam
- OCT
- Optomap
HEALTHY EYES- exam
Annual eye exams are vital to maintaining your vision and overall health. In our continuing efforts to bring the most advanced technology available to our patients, 20/20 Vision Center is proud to announce OCT/ OPTOS as an important part of our Healthy Eyes-Exam which is a complete eye exam with additional components. OCT is very similar to an MRI or CT scan for the eye. This procedure uses spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) to produce cross-sectional images of the retinal layers — which is a sensitive area of the back of your eye – in a matter of seconds.
We now offer the Healthy Eyes- exam for those patients who have diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, rheumatoid arthritis, or who have a family history of macular degeneration or are over the age of 60. This will give a thorough assessment of the retina. When systemic disease is present in the body, it is imperative that we examine the back of the eye well as sometimes there are no warning signs for ocular conditions.
Many eye problems can develop without warning and progress without symptoms. With early screenings, we may be able to detect eye threatening conditions such as macular degeneration diabetes, hypertension or glaucoma where normally these conditions may go unnoticed.
What the Healthy Eyes-exam provides for our patients:
- Provides a permanent record for your electronic medical record which allows us to compare year-to-year changes.
- OCT reports will show no issues or detect early signs of disease.
- The opportunity for you to view the scans and discuss your Healthy Eyes-exam reports with your doctor during your exam.
The Healthy Eyes-exam is quick and easy and mostly comfortable for our patients as dilation is not necessary. It is recommended for all patients, but especially those with systemic health risk or family history of health conditions.
20/20 Vision Center has the experience and equipment necessary to provide treatment, consultation and referrals at our office in both Greenville and Washington.
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
20/20 Vision Center utilizes advanced imaging technologies like OCT and Optomap to provide comprehensive, non-invasive eye examinations. These technologies enable early detection and management of conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic macular edema, often before symptoms arise. The exams are quick, comfortable, non-dilated pupils and often covered by insurance, ensuring patients receive high-quality care with minimal inconvenience.
The OCT is a significant breakthrough over existing tests. The standard pressure check (tonometry) is ineffective for detecting glaucoma in a significant percentage of individuals. Visual field testing (perimetry) is limited to measuring vision already permanently lost to glaucoma. The OCT provides precision data to assist your doctor in determining if you have glaucoma. These images and other information about your eye are compared to an extensive database to determine how your eye compares to healthy eyes and those with glaucoma.
The OCT can also give a detailed scan of the macula to help detect macular degeneration, diabetic macular edema, and other macular problems much earlier than was possible in the past.
Optomap
20/20 Vision Center is proud to offer Optomap to our patients. Optomap digitally scans your eye without the need for dilation drops. In the click of a button, we have a scan of your retina which we can keep as part of your permanent file. This test can help us determine if your retina is healthy or can help us identify many retinal pathologies as seen below. Many of these conditions are asymptomatic. It is quick and free from the inconvenience of drops.

“They are always friendly and professional. There was very little waiting time. They did not rush me and answered questions.”
“The staff is very friendly and helpful. Dry Myers is excellent. She explains everything and she’s watching for changes in order to give the correct recommendations. Ms. Frankie is very good at making you feel comfortable, and she is fun to talk to. She made a great recommendation on my next pair of eyeglasses. Thank you all.”
“They take time on your exams. Dr. Nunez explains what and why he’s looking. Willing to answer questions without the ‘I’m in a hurry’ look. Pleasant experience. Kylie (Keilly) Nunez was very helpful in my getting glasses. Give them a try!”
“Excellent service every single time! Dr. Morris is awesome and the technician that called us from the lobby offered amazing customer service! They worked as a team to get everyone pulled to the back despite being short a technician. The young technician took EVERYTHING in stride. She worked hard, was jovial and made the whole situation BETTER! I don’t know her name, but she deserves to be recognized during the next staff meeting to give her an early raise if that is possible, she absolutely deserves it! She’s the epitome of excellence in the patient experience. I am the section chief of health administration at my job and an employee of this caliber is a BLESSING in servicing the customers. Staff members that consistently go above and beyond are HARD to come by, but I just want to encourage you to really show her how much she is positively impacting the patients as they come into the office.”
